ABOUT FRIENDS OF FLORIDA FOLK: Friends of Florida Folk, Inc. (FOFF) is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission includes promoting and supporting folk music. FOFF is pleased to have been invited to participate in RocktemberFest 2010 produced by the Greater New Port Richey Main Street, Inc. The definition of Folk music can be quite broad. A folk music stage at RocktemberFest will fit in just fine! In previous years, the event taking place in late September was known as Founders' Day. This year the theme has changed to RocktemberFest. This is FOFF's 6th year of participation in the late September event. The FOFF stage will be located inside Peace Hall and will run from 1:00 - 5:15 pm on both Saturday & Sunday. There will be seating and air conditioning.
ACOUSTIC OPEN MIC: Music in Peace Hall will begin both days with an acoustic open mic from 1:00 until 2:15. Musicians to participate in the open mic & listeners are welcome. There will be a sign-up sheet. In previous years, the open mic session on both days was very popular, with all the time slots quickly filling up.
FEATURED PERFORMERS: From 2:30 - 4:10 both days there will be scheduled performers showcasing traditional and contemporary folk music and even a little of that Good Ole Rock N Roll Music that we all dig! From 4:15 – 5:15 both days will be the HEADLINERS. Saturday – Jim Mason. Sunday – Gove Scrivenor.
The emcees will be FOFF Board Members Goody Haines and Doug Purcell (who also serves as FOFF's President).
Sound in Peace Hall both days will be courtesy of FOFF board member Joe Ramirez. Joe, from Eustis, is a respected soundman whose expertise is in demand at music events in the Eustis area.

Dixie Blue http://www.myspace.com/dixiebluemusic Dixie Blue is Lynn Brainard & Jeff Miller. Their influences are the likes of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, classic country, 50s and 60s rock and roll, fiddle tunes, traditional Cajun.
Mary Ann DiNella & Jean DiNella McCormick. http://www.internetfla.com/dinella A mother & daughter duo. Mary Ann DiNella is a singer, artist, musician and teacher. She performed for years at the Causeway Inn in Tampa, singing American and Irish Ballads as a soloist. She is a featured performer at the annual Florida Folk Festival and the Will McLean Festival. Mary Ann is also a member of the group Southwind and the Duo Devine & DiNella. In addition to performing solo, Mary Ann's daughter Jean occasionally joins her which, fortunately, is the case this time. .

Jim Mason - Stories & Songs. http://www.jimmasonproductions.com Jim is the Saturday headliner. He will be sharing stories from his long career in the Rock N Roll business. He will also be sharing songs, including one which he co-wrote with Noel Paul Stookey and which was a hit for Peter, Paul, & Mary: I Dig Rock N Roll Music. Jim Mason is a music industry veteran with 40+ years experience in record production, songwriting and publishing, live performance, artist management and marketing. He has been awarded industry recognition, including gold and platinum records. In addition to co-writing "I Dig Rock-N-Roll Music", he has produced gold and platinum albums for the band, FireFall and has produced albums for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members Chris Hillman of the Byrds, and Richie Furay, of Buffalo Springfield. Other production credits of Jim's include Poco, the Cate Brothers, Bob Buford, The Rhinestones, Robbin Thompson, and Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul, and Mary, who originated the timeless "Wedding Song (There is Love)". Jim has sung backup vocals on recordings with former Beatle John Lennon, with Alice Cooper, and worked on numerous projects with Eagles bassist, Timothy B. Schmit. And on and on. Suffice it to say: Jim has had quite a career in Rock N Roll & it aint over yet.
MIKE JURGENSEN: www.mikejurgensen.com Mike is an award winning singer-songwriter guitarist who resides in New Pt Richey. He is very well known and respected on the Florida Folk Music Scene. To wit: Two of his Florida songs are featured in the Edward R. Murrow Award-winning radio documentary "Apalachicola Doin' Time," produced by WUFT & the University of Florida in Gainesville. His song "The Golden Fleece of Tarpon Springs" is featured in a Florida Humanities Council project entitled "Settlers by the Sea." Mike, with his captivating songs, quiet manner and soothing vocals, is always a crowd favorite.
KEITH SNYDER: Keith is a product of the 60's folk revival. He plays 12 string guitar and autoharp. He enjoys old-time music & protest songs. His repertoire includes songs from Leadbelly to Woody Guthrie to Pete Seeger.
DOUG PURCELL: www.facebook.com/people/Douglas-Purcell/1620997777 Although Doug is a relative newcomer to the folk music scene in Florida,word is getting out about his rich vocals and sensitive song stylings. He is also FOFF's leader, currently serving as President and bringing with him extensive experience in the field of the performing arts.
GOODY HAINES: http://www.reverbnation.com/goodyhaines Ms. Goody began singing tender, old-fashion hymns in church with her family when she was a small child, reflections of which can still be heard in her style of singing to this day. In 2005, Ms.Goody launched a popular internet radio, “Mellow Melodies with Goody,” during which she features recordings of independent artists and their original music. Much to the delight of her many fans, Ms. Goody recently released a fine recording of her own entitled “In My Own Backyard – Songs of Happiness, Hardship, Hope & Home.”
JOHN FRENCH & JOE RAMIREZ: Born in Kentucky, raised in Texas and Tennessee and currently living in Eustis, John has lived in small towns all across the south and often writes about those influences in his folk, bluegrass & counry songs. At age 13 he started writing lyrics and later began playing guitar. He co-wrote one of the songs on the rockabilly band, the V-roys, debut release in 1996 which was co-produced by Steve Earle on E-squared records. John will be joined by FOFF board member & newsletter editor Joe Ramirez on the acoustic 5 string bass guitar.

Gove's boisterous vocals, rockin' movement, and his virtuosic way with the autoharp and guitars (including slide) - plus his wonderful original ballads - make for Magical Rapport with an audience. His latest, is "Made Of Sand" features guest appearances by Emmylou Harris ,Guthrie Trapp and Nanci Griffith along with the best of the best pickers in Nashville. Gove has toured with and/or shared stages with and/or recorded with the who's who of the Americana/Blues/Folk/Country Music World, including the likes of Jimmy Buffet, Delbert McClinton, Doc Watson, John Prine, Neil Young, Glen Campbell, and Dolly Parton. Aside from being a premier autoharp player, Gove is a wonderful songwriter, singer, guitar player and a fine fellow to boot. His music is an eclectic blend of the above described genres. During his concerts he thrills and delights his audiences with his HIGH energy and thought provoking, funky, beautiful vocals and guitars. And oh - let's not forget --that WONDERFUL autoharp!
