Paul Stookey () a legend in folk music will make a special appearance in Mount Dora. It's Noel Paul Stookey, 'Paul' in Peter, Paul and Mary.
In addition to creating 'Puff the Magic Dragon' and harmonizing with Mary and Peter on 'Leaving on a Jet Plane', he also sang 'If I Had a Hammer' and 'Blowin' in the Wind' on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial shortly before Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his 'I Have a Dream' speech in 1963. For more than half a century he's been a champion of civil rights and he's been a generous philanthropist, donating all of the royalties for the biggest hit ('The Wedding Song' - 'There is Love)to charity, which runs well into the millions of dollars. What's very cool is that after Hurricane Irma blew through here a few weeks ago, his agent called and said he wanted to donate the proceeds of his CD and DVD sales to a local charity to help with hurricane relief.
I'd imagine many of the attendees would love a chance to listen to, and perhaps meet, Noel and I wanted to check with you the best way to get the word out. Should I send you a jpeg poster to share via email or your newsletter, post something on your Facebook page, or both? I'll be bringing a few free tickets to Kathy to give away in a raffle or however you choose. I'd like to help your event as well and I'll post news about it on our Facebook page Discover Real Florida, which has around 17,000 likes and will hopefully attract some attendees.
If you'd like to see some clips of Noel in action, you can visit www.mountdoraproductions.com and scroll down to his listing. His bio is there as well as video clips from 1963, the Wedding Song, and his new viral hit 'Impeachable'. If anyone would like to buy tickets, we're presenting him in partnership with the Lake County Democratic Party and tickets are at www.lakedemocrats.tix.com
