Florida Folk Festival singer/songwriters are invited to send us your music and performances, in audio/visual formats, for possible use in a special podcast scheduled for the weekend of May 22-23-24 – an extra-special time when so many of us had planned spending quality time with friends and family at the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs . . . for the 68th Annual Florida Folk Festival, of course! Unfortunately, the country’s longest running folk festival has been cancelled for this year.

Likewise, if any Florida Folk Festival attendee has good video or photographs of any aspect of the festival, we’d like to see that as well.

The Florida Folk Show Podcast (www.floridafolkshow.com) had been planning, since last year, to produce an episode on the Florida Folk Festival for broadcast prior to the 2020 event, to help promote the Festival! To this end, we’ve already collected a ton of material from anywhere we could find it, from our own personal collections as well as the state archives and Florida Memory Project.

Instead of a podcast to appear prior to the Festival, we would like to present a virtual Folk Festival that would stretch over that same entire weekend (May 22, 23, 24), during the same 30 hours the real three-day festival music schedule would have been staged.

But we will need a whole lot more material to do that. We need Florida songwriters and fans of the Florida Folk Festival to step up to the plate and send us:

1) Videos of you or your band or anyone else performing Florida folk songs. These videos should, preferably, be from a past Florida Folk Festival, taken at the Stephen Foster Folk Culture in White Springs; or from a canoe on the Suwannee or any aspect of the Festival. Songs recorded outside in your back yard – or wherever you can safely record -- especially those written about the Festival, will also be considered. We’re looking for decent sound and video. We’ll edit and re-format your media to fit the specifications of the podcast.

2) The best video and/or photographs of any of the action or scenes, the booths, vendors, picking in the campground, anything that stands out to you as Florida Folk Festival! If you want to record a short message or statement about the Florida Folk Festival, please do so.

You can submit any photos, videos and recordings to pete@floridafolkshow.com. If you are having problems sending, please e-mail us for help.

For larger files you can send up to 2GB for free at wetransfer.com . This is a cloud platform similar to Dropbox that can handle large files. Just follow the directions You simply need to upload the file or files, as instructed, then enter your e-mail address and send it to pete@floridafolkshow.com.

Thank you for your time and interest in this project. We hope to have a lot of rare and interesting footage celebrating the Florida Folk Festival. Of course, it won’t be the same. But hopefully it can recreate and preserve that special spirit until the next Festival opens up in 2021. Thank you!
