Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center Jazz Series Presents New Jazz Underground on Friday, April 19, 2024
New Jazz UndergroundPresented bySidney & Berne DavisArt Center Jazz SeriesSidney & Berne DavisArt Center'sGrand Atrium2301 First StreetFort Myers, FL 33901Friday, April 19 20246:30pm: Cocktails, 7:30pm: Performance“New Jazz Underground” is a trio composed of three Juilliard School Alumni in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s inner circle of young artists who have worked closely with jazz masters ranging from Wynton Marsalis, Victor Lewis and ELEW. The trio featuring Abdias Armenteros - saxophone, 23, Sebastian Rios - bass, 26, and TJ Reddick - drums, 23, met while they were students at the prestigious Juilliard School. However, it wasn’t until the Summer of 2020 when they started playing as a group regularly.Forced out of live music venues during the pandemic lockdown the group would meet on a weekly basis in the parks and streets of NYC to perform. Still without a live audience, in January of 2021 the band started their YouTube channel and have since built a worldwide audience of over 2 million viewers and 65k+ subscribers as of April 2023 through their viral video performances. The band’s artistic ethos is steeped in veneration of the rich lineage of jazz while demonstrating an acute awareness and presence in contemporary postmodernist sensibilities. Their online output reflects this characteristic balance, performing music created in solemn focus on swing, the blues, and improvisation, yet their approach in the modern art and media landscape comes with a measured irony. Attention-grabbing and at times even provocative titles such as “they can hate but we still swinging,” “f***ᵏ/s***ᵗ/c**ᵗ/jazz.,” and “Modern Jazz but its good” play into “clickbait” and “cringe” internet tropes. However, in contrast to what the titles may suggest these performances exemplify young artists who have immersed themselves in the jazz tradition yet exude an idiosyncratic collective musical identity rooted in the artist’s familial interpersonal relationship that speaks to a democratic modernity of profound symbolic significance. In spring of 2023 they released their first single title “Hold My Halo / Pseudo Latin Vibe” marking their first official release and glimpse into their original musical conception.Generously underwritten by Alexandra Bremner in loving memory of Eunice Bremner.SERIES FINALE SHOW.CLICK HERE FOR COMPLETEVENUE SCHEDULEThe Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, run by Florida Arts, Inc. (a 501c3 organization), is a must-see attraction in downtown Fort Myers with a colorful history. The center is dedicated to bringing world-class art events to the Southwest Florida community. Within our restored, state-of-the-art facility, we present a wide range of events to the public. From concerts to art exhibitions, galas to lectures, and providing educational arts experiences for children and adults alike– we promise excellence!~ ~ ~Distribution by(561)313-7432#JazzBluesFlorida #Jazz #Blues #Clubs #Concerts #FestivalsMaking the scene since 2006!If you wish to be included in our personalizedsubscriber list please use this FORM.Join us on INSTAGRAM!See what we see on YOUTUBE!(Maxed out at 5K on the personal page since 2016)We link to business on LINKEDIN.And, yes, PINTEREST, too!~ ~ ~ ~ -

The CASH BOX KINGS - Living Blues Charted #1 For 2023 - Playing North Central Florida's Best Listening Stage April 14, 2024
Muddy Lead The WayTo Gainesville ForThe CASH BOX KINGS!Sunday, April 14, 2024 ~ Doors 6pm, Show 6:30pmCASH BOX KINGSw/OPENING THE EVENING!AT619 South Main Street
Gainesville, FL 32601Facebook Event Page - Invite your friends!Welcome back to Gainesville after one of the best shows NCFBS ever had back in 2016: Alligator Records recording artists the Cash Box Kings are keeping REAL DEAL, old-school Chicago Blues alive and thriving. The band is dedicated to carrying on the spirit of the 1940s and 1950s post-war Chicago Blues sound as well as the Delta Blues music of the ‘20s and ‘30s. But these illustrious torch bearers also add bravado, energy and freshness to the mix that results in a distinctive musical experience and a high-energy stage show. Fronted by vocalist Oscar Wilson and vocalist/harmonica player Joe Nosek, they focus on the raw, stripped-down, ensemble playing that was the hallmark of the post-war sound. As an additional treat, they will have with them Tokyo pianist Lee Kanehira, who won the inaugural 2018 International Chicago Blues piano competition, one of the best traditional Blues and jump piano players in the world right now. She’ll blow you away.“Singer Oscar Wilson and singer-harpist Joe Nosek are experts in classic Chicago grooves—perfectly evoking Muddy and Little Walter—but they also enchant with original songs both funny and pointed.” –MOJO (UK)Opening the show is Dr. Jules’ Cool Blues. Dr. Jules’ Cool Blues is the brainchild of Dr. Jules Gliesche, whose long quest to preserve and honor the Blues has led to a recent evolution that preserves his own need to write original decompositions and cover Blues standards in public, while adding the talents of Little David Thornton(harp) and Marie Williams(piano, guitar and primarily vocals) to round out the sound and diversify the setlist. As a trio they strive to both promote Dr Jules’ original decompositions, and play the Blues honestly and true to its original roots and rhythms. By incorporating elements of Jazz & Big Band Swing, their sound remains soulful, and firmly rooted in the rhythms and traditions of the Blues. Plus, if you listen to the lyrics, you’ll discover that they’re often downright amusing. Their motto remains “We’ll play the Blues for you.”Heartwood SoundstageNestled in the heart of Gainesville, Florida, Heartwood Soundstage stands out as a vibrant music venue, enriching the local music scene with its unique charm. Boasting a state-of-the-art sound system and a cozy yet spacious setting, Heartwood provides an intimate experience for music enthusiasts. The venue's commitment to showcasing live jazz and blues aligns seamlessly with the diverse cultural offerings in the area. With its welcoming ambiance, Heartwood Soundstage has become a go-to spot for both local and touring artists, creating memorable performances that resonate with the audience.
