1)  New Jam in Interlachen:
Karan sent this along - why do Pat and I live so far away from all the good stuff!
Jam session in Interlachen, every Monday at the Old Brush Store, 201 Commonwealth Ave. (across from the VFD) from 5 p.m. till.....about 9 p.m.  Last Monday's jam at the Old Brush Store in Interlachen was a great gathering, with about 50 people counted, plus 8 or 10 musicians...fiddles, banjos, guitars, bass and some fine voices.  The music was totally acoustic, and styles were more traditional than the previous week's jam.  No drums or keyboard appeared this time, but we were treated to some good old bluegrass, country and country gospel.  Potluck was overflowing, and Robin roasted 18 chickens.  Next Monday, Feb. 13, potluck again....5-alarm chili, chicken-white bean chili and Texas chili are on the menu, too.

Thanks to Marianne Lyle for bringing the big coffee pot (with coffee) and to Ellen Morgan for the big box full of paper goods.  Thanks to Rissi Cheri for thoughtfully donating serving spoons--we really needed them.  And thanks to the many musicians who added so much to the occasion with their time and their talents.

We're planning to set up a couple of mikes to help out the singers, and a few tables outside to accomodate extra chairs and food.  This is proving to be a fine community event, and we'd like you to forward this invitation to all who would enjoy some music, food, fun and fellowship in this historic village.  It's all free..just bring a folding chair, instruments and a dish or snack to share.  For info and directions, call Barbara at 386-684-3284 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. 3) Loss of bandmate
In from Larry -

Sad news from Texas today-according to the Steel Guitar Forum, our friend and former drummer for the our Cowboy Orchestra has passed away from heart attack & stroke. Randy lived in Jacksonville during the 1990's and played great drums with our band and he could sing just like Waylon when he wanted too! He was also a member of the grounds crew at the great Sawgrass Country Club. He will be missed!

February 18th (Saturday) , 2012 - Eustis - Lake Eustis Folk - 3rd Saturday House Concerts
Dana and Susan Robinson! - From Asheville, North Carolina, Dana and Susan Robinson bring to the stage an exciting blend of original songs of the American landscape and oldtime Appalachian mountain music. With Dana on guitar and fiddle, Susan's clawhammer banjo playing and harmony singing, they bring a joyful energy to their concerts. Their music is the sound and feel of bedrock America.
The genius of a Dana and Susan Robinson performance lies in their ability to capture the imagination of their audience. They can make you howl with laughter or hush with poignant reflection as they take you on a journey across America.
Dana’s instrumental “Crossing The Platte” was featured in Ken Burns new PBS documentary, “Our National Parks, America’s Best Idea.”
Their new CD “Big Mystery,” charted # 3 on the national folk DJ list, celebrates the indomitable life force of the natural world and shines a light upon the beauty of the small and forgotten pockets of rural America.
http://www.robinsongs.com
“Rural America explored with elegant simplicity. Their music and cleanly poetic songwriting bring to mind the great folksingers of our times.” - Asheville Citizen-Times
"Many songwriters have been heralded as modern day Woody Guthries or keepers of the American rural spirit, but that mantle might be better entrusted to musicians like Dana Robinson who embody both the heart and the soul of folk music."  - Dirty Linen

Acoustic Eidolon are an internationally acclaimed duo, a tour-de-force of acoustic music.
Joe Scott and Hannah Alkire have a repertoire that defies categories, their signature sound knows no bounds as their music travels through Celtic, World, Latin and Folk influences.
Joe Scott performs on a unique, custom designed double-neck guitjo, a 14 string banjo/guitar combination created exclusively by Joe and deemed by USA Today as “a beautiful harp-like sounding instrument…. like nothing they’ve ever heard before.”  Joe can play both necks simultaneously, a technique he developed which continues to awe his peers as well as audiences.
Hannah Alkire was classically trained on the cello. She studied with G. Magyar of the Hungarian String Quartet and has won accolades worldwide for her exquisite tone and mesmerizing emotion.
Joe and Hannah’s live performances are a direct reflection of their musical and emotional alliances.  Their passionate live music and thoughtful, humorous rapport stand them above the crowd, engaging their audiences in spontaneous applause, laughter and appreciation.
Dirty Linen Magazine praises them as “a sumptuous musical feast.” They are described by the Swallow Hill Music Association as “an evening of brilliant instrumentality,” and Georgia’s Good Life Magazine enthuses, “Acoustic Eidolon offers concert-goers .... some of the most powerful and intriguing music on the scene today.” - www.acousticeidolon.com
“Pure musical poetry…a moving combination of Celtic, classical and contemporary folk!”

Bye for now!!  - Any adds, corrections, etc., please send to Chuck Spano, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it - if sending stuff in for inclusion, it must be in a text file (Word, .txt, etc or an email text file - no images, pdf's and such as don't have time to retype and lots of folks on this list still on dial-up so no images/attachments

Also - I do NOT have time to do nothing but search out upcoming events so I instead rely on folks (like you) to make me aware of major upcoming events (festivals, workshop weekends, etc.) - Pat and I participate in a lot of events and they'll be up along with a bunch of others we know about - BUT, there's others we aren't aware of unless you let us know.

Unfortunately lots of stuff comes in but in a format I can't use without re-typing everything - if it arrives that way it most likely won't appear - so, anything for inclusion, please just send as a plain text file or copy one of the things above and put your info in and then send it along - weird typefaces, multiple font sizes and colors, centered/justified changes, etc. all complicate life - if I have to spend much time (a tiny bit is ok) re-formatting submitted info, I likely won't - sorry - also, please include enough info so folks interested in your event can call, email, etc if they have ??

To be removed from this email list just send a note to:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
If you've received a copy of this info from a friend, etc. and would like to be on our email list, just send a note to me (Chuck Spano) at    yoda2 at bellsouth.net  (replace the word "at" with the @ sign of course and say you want to be added to the weekly events newsletter

Patchouli Duo at Woodview - March2
Patchouli Duo to Perform

at Woodview Coffee House, Lecanto

Patchouli3March comes roaring in at Woodview Coffee House in Lecanto when the duo Patchouli performs on Friday, March 2.   Doors open at 6:30pm and admission is $7 at the door.

Music reviewers at City Pages rave about the duo, “Patchouli live is amazing. I compare it to taking a yoga class in a field of running mustangs.”

Nationally touring, award winning songwriter Julie Patchouli and master guitarist Bruce Hecksel light up the air with sparkling acoustic sounds and their powerful contagious chemistry.  Twelve years of non-stop touring has honed this classically trained duo into legendary performers, dubbed “the hardest working folk duo in America”.

Famous for that smiling voice that instantly turns a bad day into a good one, Patchouli’s down-to-earth, hopeful songwriting is “New American Folk” blending elements of folk, pop, flamenco and jazz with world beat rhythms. Patchouli’s sound has been described as “the harmonies of Simon & Garfunkel meet the guitar brilliance of the Gipsy Kings”.

Patchouli represents the very top echelon of today's acoustic performers, bringing the highest level of skill together with the passion, experience and joy that are a rare combination indeed.

Woodview Coffee House will be located at Unity Church’s of Citrus County’s “Gratitude Café” (Fellowship Hall) 2628 Woodview Lane, Lecanto through season’s end in May. Doors will open at 6:30pm with admission of $7 per person.  Home baked refreshments will be available.
