Get ready!  It's almost time for our first jam of the season.  We'll be at Manatee Historical Park, 4303 Manatee Ave in Bradenton from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, next Saturday October 8th, 2019.  We play old time fiddle and dance music (not bluegrass).  So come and play or come and listen.  If you're a beginner you can get some tips from the more experienced players.

JAM GUIDELINES
1. We encourage people to come and go when they want, to bring a friend, to bring recorders to help them learn the tunes, and to suggest tunes (which they may, but don’t have to, start).
2. We encourage both instrumental and instrumental-vocal tunes.
3. We encourage everyone to join in the chorus of songs, and those who know some verses to alternate singing with others who know verses.
4. We encourage non-musicians to come and listen.
5. We encourage a spirit of fun—jokes and (short) stories are allowed.
6. We discourage solos--we want as many people as possible to be able to join in the music.
7. We insist that people name the tune they want everyone to play, rather than just launching into it.
8. We support the banjo players by not changing keys too often.

Looking ahead, our next jam will be on the fourth Saturday, October 22, 2019.  The park will be having a halloween event called "Spirit Voices From Old Manatee" featuring a graveyard tour with "living" characters from the past.

Manatee Avenue is SR 64, and the park is between I75 and Tamiami Trail, not far from either.  See you there.
