Dear Friends, Yes, it?s true, I do have a new book, a novella entitled ?Dorothy?. This book is beautifully illustrated by my longtime friend and artist Joe Mark. Margaret Longhill, President Emeritus of the Will McLean Foundation wrote the Forward. Here?s what she writes: In this charming novella, St. Augustine resident Bob Patterson, chronicler of Florida in story and song, creates the character of a valiant woman who lived in Florida at the end of the eighteenth century. An intenses sense of place gives the area of Little Talbot Island and the town of Fernandina an important role in the story as the author digs deep into its Timucuan history and eighteenth century way of life. It is as if the area wanted to be turned into a story. The reader is transported to a place and time when Florida was wilder, but will recognize the enduring qualities of sea, and rivers, of palms and palmettos, and, yes, of hurricanes. Bob Patterson, who has given us the well beloved song, ?Lullaby of the Rivers?, and the delightful book, ?Forgotten Tales of Florida?, here presents the vivid story of one woman?s life and the place that wanted to be turned into a story.? We had hoped to have books before Christmas but it just didn?t work out. But we have learned that the publisher has just shipped some and, in fact, we have some.It will be a little while before it finds its way to the shelves of local bookstores. If you would like an advance copy for yourself, or to give as a gift, send me your name and address

She was 73. Her manager, Lupe De Leon, said that the cause was complications of leukemia. Ms. James, who died at Riverside Community Hospital, had been undergoing treatment for some time for a number of conditions, including leukemia and dementia. She also lived in Riverside. Ms. James was not easy to pigeonhole. She is most often referred to as a rhythm and blues singer, and that is how she made her name in the 1950s with records like ?Good Rockin? Daddy.? She is in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Blues Hall of Fame. For the full bio go to this link: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/21/arts/music/etta-james-singer-dies-at-73.html
